55 year Reunion
It was just a few years ago that someone in Hamilton at the Hamilton carnival said "We need a rescue ambulance that can come to help people in trouble."
2 of the original LVVRS members that started this now famous Squad were on Hand - Bill Fiske and Frank Legard - werer on hand - but many there didn't know the story. I had a chance to talk with both after it was over... "Someone had been injured at the Hamilton carnival grounds on the west end of town. Dr. Rogers, who was riding his horse in the parade earlier, dressed like a doctor of olden days who visited homes on horseback, came riding across the carnival grounds. It was later on that several members decided "Let's start a rescue squad." And with those few words, history began. It would create the Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad, with stations in Hamilton, Leesburg, and Purcellville. As time went by, and needs grew, the squads would form in their own areas. But the friendships, the dedication, and the protection for Loudoun citizens and it's visitors would become more complex, more intense, and more efficient. Today's levels of proficiency have first responders, EMT-B, Shock Trauma Technicians, and EMT-C Cardiac technicians / Paramedics.
